Hideo Kojima Officially Returns to ‘Cyberpunk’

When he's not busy making video games, Hideo Kojima lends a hand to other projects. The video game director may be best known for his work on the Metal Gear franchise, but he's also known for making unexpected appearances, surprising fans whenever they spot his face or likeness in other media. Now, his next appearance won't come as a surprise. Ahead of the return of a hit Netflix series, the show has confirmed that Kojima will make an appearance.

Right now, Kojima is working on two upcoming video games. The first is Physint, an upcoming action-adventure stealth game, starring Bill Skarsgård as the playable character. The second is an upcoming horror game called OD and has Jordan Peele working alongside the game director. Release dates for both titles have yet to be announced, and details for the latter remain a mystery, as Kojima wants to "release it without saying anything."

Outside video games, Kojima has made cameos and taken on small roles in various projects, including Zootopia 2. Earlier this month, Kojima revealed that he would appear in a major live-action movie and an anime series. While the movie remains a mystery, we may now know which anime Kojima was referring to. On social media, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners has announced that Kojima will make a cameo in the upcoming series, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, where he will reprise his Cyberpunk 2077 role as Hideyoshi Oshima, a character described as "a Japanese braindance director." While the show did not reveal which episodes Kojima's cameo would be in, it showed a first glimpse of his character, albeit not very heavily detailed, and it looks like a screenshot of him in the background. If that's the case, keen-eyed fans should keep an eye out for him.

What Is 'Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2' About?

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is the upcoming stand-alone follow-up to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, featuring a new set of characters, but it will continue to take place in Night City. As of writing, plot details have yet to be revealed, but a trailer came out last week, showcasing more action and violence in this dystopian city. The show stars Valeria Rodriguez (Monster High) as Roman Carax and Kimoy Lee (Star Wars: Visions Presents - The Ninth Jedi) as Talia Yang. The first Cyberpunk: Edgerunners series came out in 2022 and was met with high praise, earning a perfect 100% critics' score and a 95% audience score.
