Game 3 of the 2026 NBA Finals tips off Monday at 8:30 p.m. ET at Madison Square Garden, with the New York Knicks holding a commanding 2-0 series lead over the San Antonio Spurs. President Donald Trump confirmed he plans to attend, which would make him the first sitting U.S. president to watch an NBA Finals game in person.
According to ESPN, after accepting a personal invitation from Knicks owner James Dolan, Trump told reporters, "The answer is yes. He's invited me, and I'm going. I'll be there. It could be Monday. Maybe I'll do both."
Trump also took a moment to praise Spurs center Victor Wembanyama, saying, "Wemby's a great player. He's going to be a great player and he already is a great player."
Since the president is scheduled to appear in Game 3, security will be incredibly tight. Now, whether you're coming in from New York or flying in from San Antonio, here is exactly what you need to know before you walk through those doors Monday night.
1. No bags allowed
Madison Square Garden and the Secret Service aren't allowing any bags inside for the game. Audiences must leave their backpacks, purses, and bags at home and just bring the absolute basics with them.
The Knicks have made an official announcement detailing strict security protocols for Game 3 of the 2026 NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden, including a no-bag policy, TSA-style screening, and urging fans to arrive two hours early.

2. TSA-style screening at entry
Standard arena security is replaced by heavy Secret Service checkpoints. So, fans may need to spend some extra time to get through the metal detectors.
3. Arrive at least two hours before tip-off
This is the most critical logistical note. The official announcement from the Knicks strongly encourages all ticket holders to arrive no later than two hours before the 8:30 p.m. ET tip-off. Fans can definitely expect some long lines outside.
4. No storage for prohibited items
MSG will not store any prohibited items for you. Fans are encouraged to review the full list at secretservice.gov/prohibiteditems before leaving the house.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver welcomed Trump's attendance, saying he believes the visit could "emphasize what we have in common, not what pulls us apart". Politics aside, the arena’s strict security protocols are completely non-negotiable. Folks need to arrive fully prepared, or they seriously risk missing the opening tip-off.
