Heat’s Norman Powell delivers strong praise for ‘Heat Culture’

The Miami Heat have given themselves a hard-nosed reputation dubbed “Heat Culture” in recent years. In the midst of a strong 3-2 start to the season, a new face is praising that very culture that has become the identity of the Miami Heat.

Norman Powell was traded from the Los Angeles Clippers to the Miami Heat this past offseason as part of a three-team trade with the Utah Jazz. Powell has been a reliable scorer for several seasons now, and is coming off a career-best 21.8 points per game average last season with the Clippers.

Now with the Heat, Powell has gotten off to a strong start, averaging 24.0 points per game in three appearances so far. In a recent Amazon Prime appearance, Powell praised the culture that has become so famous in Miami, despite some skepticism from outsiders, including himself.

“Hearing from the outside I was nervous of how strict they are with diet, body fat, that was around the league,” Powell said. “We knew if you go to MIA it’s going to be military style… being a part of It now it’s really amazing. I can see why they’ve been so successful.”

Powell figures to be an integral part of the Heat’s offensive scheme this season alongside Bam Adebayo, and Tyler Herro upon his return from ankle surgery. He’ll look to continue his hot start to the season throughout the year as the Heat look to bounce back from a disappointing season in 2024-25.
