DeMar DeRozan is a 17-year veteran looking for a team that can contend for the playoffs as he approaches the latter stages of his career. At 37 years old, he has an opportunity to choose a destination where he believes he can contribute to a championship contender.
DeRozan has interest from several teams after being released by the Sacramento Kings.
“The Sacramento Kings have waived DeMar DeRozan, the team announced Monday, making the six-time All-Star one of the top free agents on the market. DeRozan had a partial guarantee on his contract for next season, but he and Sacramento worked on his release to allow him to find a new home. Multiple contenders are expected to have interest in the veteran guard," ESPN wrote.
The six-time All-Star has several contenders interested in him, which is a testament to the career he has built. Three teams have recently been linked to the veteran offensive weapon.
“The Wizards shifted their intent to sign another veteran this offseason by showing some interest in DeMar DeRozan, pursuing the former All-Star swingman along with teams such as Miami and Denver,” The Stein Line’s Marc Stein wrote.
At this point, it is simply a matter of which organization DeRozan chooses. ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel believes the Heat will ultimately land DeRozan over the Nuggets and Wizards.
“As for the Miami Heat, they have long been linked to DeRozan before he was traded to Sacramento in 2024. The Heat missed out on Bradley Beal, and with Klay Thompson not expected to be bought out, the only other major addition that could be made in South Beach would be adding DeRozan,” Siegel wrote.
Landing DeRozan would completely change the outlook of Miami's offseason, as the Heat would finally add another veteran after missing out on several of their top targets. DeRozan would also give the team another proven offensive weapon alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo.
DeRozan has made $305 million throughout his career. The Heat would still need to address their shooting, but signing DeRozan would at least give Miami another major piece and finally allow the organization to land a player it has pursued for years.
