The Miami Heat have to feel they have at least some chance of landing LeBron James.
James, who has yet to decide what he wants to do in the future, has a few decisions to make over the next few days to weeks.
Whether he wants to return to the Heat, go back to the Cleveland Cavaliers, or have a new opportunity with the Golden State Warriors all feel like real possibilities. While there have been some questions about the Heat even having a chance because of the expectation that he would return to the Cavaliers, the latest report suggests that, while Cleveland might be the favorite, the Heat are still a possibility.
“A third (and bow-tying) marriage with the Cleveland Cavaliers continues to be regarded as “the scenario to beat” by the the teams pursuing James that have been most frequently mentioned: Golden State, Miami, Philadelphia, Minnesota and Denver.
“To beat. Not necessarily unbeatable,” Marc Stein wrote.
Hearing that Cleveland is the team to beat, but not unbeatable, should still be viewed as good news for Miami at this stage of the offseason.
The Heat have a lot to offer James as well, which makes a lot of this very interesting. I'm unsure if he really wants to be back in Miami, but they can offer him a lot that Cleveland can't at the moment.
