Heartbreaking photos show the young siblings who were killed in a boat crash at the Jersey Shore last weekend spending time on the water with their parents over the years before their lives were tragically cut short.
Mya Golabek, 9, and her brother Sigmund Golabek, 7, were photographed beaming in life vests and bathing suits with parents Sigmund and Jennifer Golabek on boats going back several years to when the children were just babies, according to adorable Facebook pictures shared by their father.
The doting parents, also grinning ear to ear, held their kids close in the family photos.
The sister and brother were killed after the family’s 30-foot boat struck a channel marker in Barnegat Bay on Sunday night, sending the children flying into the water, State Police told NJ.com.
The children’s grandfather, Steven Scheider, 63, who police say was piloting the craft, and grandmother, Laurie Schneider, 64, found the children — but they were unresponsive and later pronounced dead.
The children’s funeral is being held on Friday in Forked River, NJ.
“A sibling bond is a love that lasts forever. Mya and Siggy were not only brother and sister, but best friends who shared laughter, adventures, and countless memories,” each of the children’s heart-wrenching obituaries reads.
“Now they continue their journey together, hand in hand, carrying their love beyond this world and leaving behind a beautiful reminder of the unbreakable bond they shared.”
The crash remains under investigation and no charges have been filed.
The channel marker was fully functioning and its lights were working when the boat struck into it around 9 p.m., Berkeley Councilman James Byrnes told News 12 New Jersey.
