An ECW and WWE legend once wished to step back from retirement into the squared circle for one more feud with AEW top name Maxwell Jacob Friedman. The veteran in question, Mick Foley, has now shed more light on some of the potential ideas that had been pitched for the rivalry, including The Wolf of Wrestling beating up Foley's son.
Known for his high-risk and intensely violent wrestling style and catalogue, paired with a second-to-none aptitude for character work, Mrs. Foley's Baby Boy successfully captured the admiration of wrestling viewers for his work across a number of major promotions, including WCW, ECW, WWE and TNA for over two decades. Owing to the cumulative damage his body has sustained throughout his career, the erstwhile Mankind has not been in the ring since his appearance at the 2012 Royal Rumble.
Earlier this year, Mick Foley revealed that he had been considering the prospect of wrestling one more match, naming top AEW star MJF as a very strong candidate for being his final opponent. During a recent interview with Inside The Ropes, the Hall of Famer recalled his "secret" meeting with the self-proclaimed generational talent, and the latter's six-week creative pitch for their program. In particular, Foley mentioned that there were plans involving Friedman assaulting Mick's son, Dewey Foley, in a bold allusion to the legend's iconic "Cane Dewey" promo from ECW.
“The first person I called was MJF because we had a top secret meeting at a Long Island Steakhouse, and he laid out six weeks of beautiful television,” Foley said. “You know the promo, Cane Dewey? [MJF] was literally going to Cane Dewey. He was going to beat up my son on television, and I was going to come back looking for vengeance.” [H/T - ITR Wrestling]A bout between MJF and the former Cactus Jack seems like an unlikely possibility at this point, as the latter is signed with WWE under a Legends deal and as an ambassador.
MJF could soon be making his AEW return
Maxwell Jacob Friedman has been missing from action since Mark Briscoe defeated him in a brutal Tables N' Thumbtacks bout at All Out: Toronto. After it was announced recently that the Dynamite Diamond Ring- which has been a key weapon in MJF's arsenal for several years now- will be up for grabs in a Battle Royale this coming Wednesday at AEW Holiday Bash, speculations began to circulate regarding The Salt of The Earth's potential return this week in Manchester.
Dynamite Diamond Ring is back and this time around... winner will get an AEW World Championship match in 2026.• DEC 17: Battle Royale• DEC 24: Final• JAN 14: World Title ShotWILL MJF BE BACK TO DEFEND IT?If not, then we're getting a new winner for the first time ever.
If he is able to survive as one of the two final participants in this Wednesday's Battle Royale, Friedman will take on the other finalist at Dynamite on 34th Street to decide the winner of the Dynamite Diamond Ring. The victory would also earn him a shot at reclaiming the AEW World Title from Samoa Joe next year at Dynamite: Maximum Carnage.
