Vince Gilligan, the creator, writer, and executive producer of Breaking Bad and its spin-off Better Call Saul, recently commented on the current plight of the titular character from the latter series. For the uninitiated, Better Call Saul, which ran between 2015 and 2022, followed the life of Saul Goodman, a fictional lawyer in the Breaking Bad universe.

During the finale, which aired on August 15, 2022, Goodman shed his alter ego and came clean as James "Jimmy" McGill, confessing to all the crimes he committed with Walter White. He was sentenced to serve 86 years in prison.

Vince Gilligan recently commented on where Saul Goodman would be at present when he appeared on The Rich Eisen Show, which aired on November 20, 2025. The show creator jokingly added that he believed President Donald Trump might have pardoned Goodman, adding:

“I think Trump pardoned him, I think he’s out that’s what I think, kinda tracks doesn’t it?”

Vince Gilligan's answer was met with varied responses from netizens on X, with one user claiming that Saul Goodman was probably in Miami.

"He's probably out somewhere in Miami lmao."

Several netizens felt that Goodman receiving a pardon was something that the showrunners would have done.

Meanwhile, others seemed conflicted by the answer, saying that it went against Goodman's decision to confess his crimes and go to prison to face the consequences of his actions in the finale.

Vince Gilligan reunited with Better Call Saul actress for new Apple TV+ series

Vince Gilligan has joined forces with Better Call Saul actress Rhea Seehorn, who played attorney Kim Wexler in the TV show, for a new Apple TV+ series called Pluribus. Seehorn plays Carol Sturka, a novelist living in Albuquerque, New Mexico, who ends up as one of the few people immune to a "mysterious wave of forced happiness," as described by IMDb.

In an interview with El País, published on November 10, 2025, Gilligan explained that he wrote the story for Pluribus with Seehorn in mind, adding that the actress caught his eye while working on Better Call Saul.

“We’re making Better Call Saul, and all the actors were great, but one actor in particular caught my eye, and it was Rhea Seehorn. She was so good. I have to admit, I didn’t know who she was when we hired her," he said.

Vince Gilligan continued:

"I got to know her through her work on our series, and I realized how funny she was, and later I found out she had done a lot of comedies, and at the same time, she could be very dramatic. So I said to myself, why does this show have to be about a guy and not a woman? I wound up writing the story specifically for Rhea."

In another interview with Rolling Stone, dated November 3, 2025, Vince Gilligan explained that he was nervous about "leaving the Heisenberg universe" to create Pluribus. He further added that Breaking Bad's success exceeded their "wildest expectations," saying:

“I was nervous about leaving the Heisenberg universe. Some people who read my biography are going to say ‘Well, this guy got real lucky real early.’ And that’s true. But there’s some years in the wilderness where it was like, ‘I’m never going to get to where I want to be.’ And suddenly, Breaking Bad happens, and it turns into this thing that was beyond any of our wildest expectations. It still blows my mind.

The first two episodes of Pluribus aired on November 7, 2025, on Apple TV+. New episodes will reportedly air every Friday through December 26, 2025.
