Hairstylist Jesus Guerrero’s Sister Weighs in on “Unanswered Questions” About His Sudden Death
The family of late celebrity hairstylist Jesus Guerrero is sharing more details about his health as they continue to grieve.
While the cause of his death in February remains unknown, the 34-year-old—who worked with stars such as Kylie Jenner and Jennifer Lopez—battled an illness before he died, according to his sister.
"He was diagnosed with gastritis months back, but it was never anything to get that bad," Gris Guerrero told Us Weekly March 31. "So, we don't know if that was a part of it."
The condition is characterized by inflammation of the stomach lining, commonly caused by over-the-counter pain relievers, alcohol or a bacterial stomach infection, with symptoms including nausea, vomiting, stomach pain and loss of appetite. Its prognosis is often very good, according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine.
Gris also said "from the paperwork" she’s seen, it "seems to be the case" that Jesus lost 20 pounds before he died.
The 27-year-old had announced her brother's death on a GoFundMe page Feb. 22.
"It is with a heavy heart that we let the world know that Jesus Guerrero has gone to heaven," she wrote. "He is a son, a brother, an uncle, an artist, a friend, and so much more. Born and raised in Houston, TX to immigrant parents, Jesus learned how to work hard and dreamt of taking his skills to the top."
The post added, "Unfortunately, his passing came very suddenly and unexpectedly. Currently, his family is taking care of his personal belongings and accommodations to bring him home to Houston."
Jesus was laid to rest at a funeral in Houston March 30, with Kylie and J.Lo in attendance.
Days before his death in February, the "Dance Again" singer shared photos from a United Arab Emirates trip that included the hairstylist. Following his passing, Jennifer posted a tribute to her friend.

"It’s no surprise your mother gave you the name Jesus," she wrote on Instagram. "You were gentle and kind and loving, quiet and unassuming, but so powerful, and your presence was felt the minute you walked into any room. You never demanded the spotlight. You never needed to make a sound to be recognized, your heart and your talent did that as effortlessly as you artistry did."
Kylie had also paid homage to the hairstylist following his death. "Jesus was more than my friend—he was a light in my life, a source of laughter, comfort, love, and unwavering support," the Kylie Cosmetics founder wrote in a Feb. 25 Instagram post. "I don't know how I would have made it through the last almost decade without him by my side."
