Gypsy Rose Blanchard Slams "Disturbed" Ex Nicholas Godejohn Over Her Mom’s Murder
Gypsy Rose Blanchard is listening to her critics.
The 34-year-old responded to the backlash she received for seemingly making light of her role in the 2015 murder of her mom Claudine “Dee Dee” Blanchard in a social media video with Natalie Reynolds, acknowledging that she missed the mark.
“I understand that my audience has always followed my journey because they like to see me grow,” she told TMZ in an interview published March 23. “Usually, I think I can bank on my audience receiving things very well, but I’m not the type of person to be very in your face about my past.”
“This is the first time that I tried something different in a head-on approach,” Gypsy continued. “Unfortunately, it wasn’t received like we wanted.”
In the TikTok video in question, the My Time to Stand author—who shares daughter Aurora Raina Urker, 14 months, with fiancé Ken Urker—participated in the “We Listen and We Don’t Judge” challenge with Natalie, making reference to her criminal history.
“I went to prison for eight and a half years because I… my own mom,” she said in the clip, making an “X” symbol with her arms. “Hey, we listen and we don’t judge.”
When asked about the negative response the video received, Gypsy explained that she didn’t set out to stoke controversy.
“The whole idea behind it [is], yes, we understand that we’re not perfect, we are influencers, and we have gone through some difficult things,” she explained, “but we are focusing on positivity. That was the entire point of the video, is accountability and growth.”
After welcoming Aurora in December 2024, Gypsy acknowledged that she would never fully outrun her past as she grappled with the thought of eventually having to explain her conviction to her little girl. (She pleaded guilty to second degree murder while her ex Nicholas Godejohn is serving a life sentence after being convicted of first degree murder.)
“I have been hit with the question, ‘How are you going to tell your daughter about what you did?’” she shared on an episode of Gypsy Rose: Life After Lockup in May. “I just want to know that she's going to love me and forgive me for what I did in my past.”
After all, Gypsy argued that she’s “not a monster,” adding of Aurora, “I don't want her to grow up thinking that I'm one.”
