Gunther perhaps became the most hated man in professional wrestling after defeating John Cena at Saturday Night's Main Event XLII. The Ring General broke millions of hearts by making the GOAT tap out in his final in-ring outing.
With a statement win over the 17-time world champion, the Austrian star will now have to ensure that he carries this momentum into his next step in WWE. After generating massive heat, the 38-year-old could debut a shocking new character.
In an interesting possibility, Gunther could adopt the moniker of 'The Legend Killer' in WWE. Back in July of this year, The Ring General defeated Goldberg in the latter's final match.
Last weekend, he added another legend to this list by retiring John Cena. After a win over The Franchise Player, the Triple H-led creative team has to book The Ring General in a massive program to capitalize on the heat he has generated.
If the former World Heavyweight Champion starts calling himself the new Legend Killer, it could ignite a feud between him and Randy Orton. Despite being one of John Cena's iconic rivals, The Viper was absent from Saturday Night's Main Event XLI. However, he could now confront The Ring General to exact revenge for Cena.
While The Ring General has been a prizefighter throughout his career in WWE thus far, the world title scene on RAW appears to be occupied at the moment, with Bron Breakker challenging CM Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship next month.
Therefore, the Triple H-led creative team may have to book Gunther in a massive non-title rivalry that could be a worthy follow-up to retiring The Never Seen 17. A high-profile feud with Randy Orton could keep the 38-year-old in the spotlight. To kickstart this program, the Austrian star could debut a new character and call himself 'The Legend Killer.'
That said, this scenario is only speculative, and nothing has been confirmed. It remains to be seen what's next for the former Imperium leader in WWE.
Triple H explains why John Cena tapped out to Gunther at WWE SNME
Triple H received loud boos from the crowd in Capital One Arena after John Cena tapped out to Gunther at Saturday Night's Main Event. Fans online have also been criticizing The Game for his booking.
During the Saturday Night's Main Event Post-Show, The WWE CCO explained the rationale behind why The Cenation Leader gave up in this final in-ring outing.
"There are time-honored traditions in our business, and there are ways that you handle your business. John has said the right thing his entire career, that it is about leaving this place better than you found it. I think that there's no way for people to understand this in the moment. But you do what is right for the business, you do what is right for this industry. John has done that his entire career, and I'm gonna do that my entire career," Triple H said.It was certainly a bittersweet moment for fans to witness their hero tap out for the first time in over two decades.
