Guardians starting pitcher gets great injury news

The Guardians received good news from one of their starting pitchers that is battling back from an injury.

According to CBS Sports, Shane Bieber is scheduled to make a rehab start in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on Tuesday.

Bieber made his first start in the Arizona Complex League, but was pulled off his minor-league assignment a week later after soreness in his right elbow flared up. He had elbow surgery in April of 2024. He was cleared to get back to throwing two weeks late. After building back up through bullpen sessions and live batting sessions, Bieber is ready to return to action.

Bieber’s workload Tuesday is expected to be light, just two innings and 35 pitches. He is expected to need two three starts in the ACL before Cleveland takes him off the 60-day injured list.

It has been about 15 months since Bieber’s elbow injury occurred. Bieber’s 2024 campaign ended barely after it got started. He made two starts in the 2024 season against the Athletics and the Mariners. In both starts, he went six innings and did not allow a run.

The Guardians need a pitcher like Bieber back in the starting rotation. Gavin Williams has the best ERA in the Cleveland rotation at 3.70. The Guardians have caught fire after losing 10 in a row just a little over a week ago. Cleveland has followed up its losing streak with winning six of its last seven.

With the Guardians being in the heat of the wild card race, adding a pitcher like Bieber before the end of the year would help a lot.
