Guardians could trade utility infielder at the trade deadline

The Cleveland Guardians could be in position to sell at the trade deadline later this month. At 46-49, well out of the American League playoff picture, the Guardians could part ways with some of their key pieces.

Paul Hoynes of cleveland.com points out that utility infielder Daniel Schneemann has been garnering interest from other MLB teams. His versatility, and upside with the bat are the biggest factors.

“A couple teams have kicked the tires on Schneemann,” Hoynes said on the Cleveland Baseball Talk podcast. “Kind of a valuable, multi-position guy. Got a little pop. He’s been a solid contributor this year.”

The 28-year-old Schneemann can play multiple positions. He has appeared in 55 games at second base, 11 at third base, 11 at shortstop, three in left field, six in center field, and four in right field this season. In his second season in the big leagues, Schneemann is batting .215 with 9 home runs and a .682 OPS.

While his numbers at the plate aren’t the prettiest, Schneemann has shown an improvement in the power department compared to his rookie season, when he hit just five home runs in 73 games. Combine that with his ultimate versatility, and the Guardians could receive solid assets in return.
