The Blackout Mutation was introduced in Grow a Garden by the second part of the Ghoul Garden Event. This Mutation creates dark particles around the affected crop and drastically increases its selling value. Its associated event is spine-chilling, as it causes the map to go black and grey to mark the arrival of the Grim Reaper.

How to get Blackout Mutation in Grow a Garden

The Blackout Mutation is applied to crops during the Grim Reaper event. During this admin-triggered event, the environment gets an ominous black-and-grey theme and a large Grim Reaper spawns on the map. The reaper uses its scythe to create dark spikes all over the island, while random crops in your garden get mutated to Blackout.

Given that the Grim Reaper event is controlled by the developers, you will need to wait for the next Admin Abuse. Such festivities occur on both private and public servers one hour before an update is rolled out.

The Blackout Mutation can be obtained by any plant, flower, or vegetable. Notably, it can be spread to other crops by the Spinosaurus, T-Rex, and Fennec Fox. Obtain and deploy these Pets in your garden to get Blackout on more of your harvests and benefit from the Mutation's effects.

Blackout is a good enough Mutation for new players. It increases a crop's sale value by a 95x multiplier, which is higher than the new Mutations like Shadowbound, Umbral, Vamp, Spooky, and Moonbled. Beginners who want to earn Sheckles quickly and increase their purchasing power must strive to get Blackout on most of their crops.

A Blackout crop has dark particle effects around it. Moreover, it gets a shadow black color, giving it a spooky appearance. These effects resonate with the Mutation's associated event that features the arrival of the Grim Reaper.

Blackout is currently not a requirement for any combo Mutation. This may change in the future when the developer releases more crop enhancements that require the fusion of two or more Mutations.
