Grizzlies officially cut ties with $205 million two-time All-Star via trade to Jazz

The Memphis Grizzlies were among the franchises to execute a trade on Tuesday.

The 19-29 Western Conference traded a two-time All-Star to the Utah Jazz to help them begin rebuilding mode. Hours after ESPN’s Shams Charania announced the trade on X/Twitter, ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel reported that the deal had been officially finalized.

“The Jazz-Grizzlies trade involving Jaren Jackson Jr. and seven other players has been confirmed by the league office and completed,” Siegel stated.

The full trade sends Jackson, John Konchar, Jock Landale, and Vince Williams Jr. to the Utah Jazz for Walter Clayton, Kyle Anderson, Taylor Hendricks, Georges Niang, and three future first-round picks.

The Grizzlies made the right decision to move on from Jackson. As good as the Michigan State product is, Memphis hasn’t made significant strides with him controlling their frontcourt. Why retain Jackson when there’s a viable opportunity to trade him for pieces that’ll help shape the Grizzlies’ future?

Once Memphis identified the perfect trade, it was a no-brainer for them to pull the trigger and make much-needed roster adjustments. Will Ja Morant be on his way out the door next? Charnaia believes it’s a legitimate possibility.

‘The Grizzlies' conversations on Ja Morant and entertaining offers is continuing around the league,” Charania said. “Multiple teams with interest in Ja Morant... This is a Grizzlies organization prioritizing their young core... Ja Morant trade conversations between now and Thursday are continuing to heat up.”

It wouldn’t be surprising to witness the Grizzlies make another move before the deadline.
