Green Bay Packers star Jaire Alexander linked to top-tier AFC contender

Since the NFL offseason began, the Green Bay Packers have been expected to move on from star veteran cornerback Jaire Alexander. However, in recent days, there has been some speculation that he could be back for one more year.

That being said, the likely outcome is still that the Packers will either trade or release Alexander.

Brian Gutekunst has been waiting and being patient with the situation. He would rather acquire some sort of value for Alexander than to cut him loose for free. Unfortunately, teams know that Green Bay may have to cut him and might not be willing to trade anything of value.

What teams could monitor Alexander if the Packers do end up releasing him?

David Latham of Last Word on Sports has suggested the Buffalo Bills as a possible destination for the 28-year-old cornerback.

"The Buffalo Bills locked up cornerback Christian Benford to a well-deserved four-year, $76 million contract, but they must still find another starting-caliber option at the position. Armed with just $4.45 million in cap space, the Bills could sign Jaire Alexander to an incentive-laden prove-it deal after the Packers part ways with him. While the injury concerns are legitimate, Buffalo must shoot for the moon and sign a player with All-Pro potential to finally emerge victorious in the AFC playoffs."

Alexander is coming off of a 2024 season that saw him prove his ability to make an impact. He only played in seven games, but he recorded 16 tackles, a fumble recovery, two interceptions, a defensive touchdown, and seven defended passes.

While there are concerns about his ability to stay healthy and on the field, the Bills could take a gamble. He could be the missing piece that takes their defense to the next level.

Expect to hear more details and news about Alexander's future as the 2025 NFL Draft continues to draw closer. Should Green Bay opt to let him walk, keep an eye on Buffalo as a potential suitor.
