The makers of “Grand Theft Auto” have shifted gears.

“Grand Theft Auto VI,” the video game that’s been 12 years in the making, just had its release date pushed to May 26, 2026.

“We are very sorry that this is later than you expected,” an apology on Rockstar Games’ website read.

“The interest and excitement surrounding a new ‘Grand Theft Auto’ has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game.”

“Grand Theft Auto VI” has been delayed til May, 2026.
The plot revolves around Jason and Lucia, a Bonnie and Clyde-like couple.

But to tide fans over, the company released a second extended trailer on Tuesday.

The plot of the crime-sans-punishment game revolves around a Bonnie and Clyde-like couple named Jason and Lucia on the run.

“Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them,” the description of “VI” notes.

“But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive.”

Leonida is a sunny stand-in for Florida.

Previously planned to drop in the fall of 2025, the developer has called the sixth “Grand Theft Auto” game, “the biggest, most immersive evolution of the series yet.”

“Grand Theft Auto V,” released way back in 2013, has sold over 210 million copies and is the second best-selling video game of all time.

No. 1, “Minecraft,” was just made into a movie starring Jack Black and Jason Momoa, which has grossed $874 million at the global box office.
