A Fort Bend County, Texas grand jury returned a no bill in the assault case against former NBA player Patrick Beverley on Monday, according to court records.
The 37-year-old had been facing one felony charge of assault on a family/household member impeding breath/circulation over allegations he punched and choked his teenage sister during an ugly dispute in November, but Beverley’s attorneys told The California Post that the grand jury’s decision helps prove his innocence.

“Patrick wants everyone to know that he would never do anything to harm his sister and that he is very grateful that the grand jury has recognized that with their no-bill. He is thankful for all who prayed for him and supported him during this time. He is glad that the process was allowed to work as it did and his hope is that with these charges behind him now, his name and reputation will be restored.”
Beverley was arrested on Nov. 14 after his 15-year-old sister told police he grabbed her by her neck and picked her up off the ground after he had gotten upset with her over an encounter she had with her 18-year-old boyfriend.
She alleged the former Lakers guard “squeezed her neck causing her to feel pain,” and later punched her “approximately one time on her left eye with a closed fist,” according to court documents.
Police stated when they arrived on scene to instigate the matter, Beverely’s sister had petechiae in her eyes and “markings” on her neck.
Patrick Beverley was arrested in November over allegations he and his teenage sister got into an ugly dispute in Texas. Fort Bend County Sheriff'Âs OfficeBeverley proclaimed his innocence just after he was released from jail, writing on his X page, “Please don’t believe everything you see on the internet.”
A statement posted to his social media counts later attempted to clarify the situation.
“Patrick Beverley has no criminal record,” the Nov. 14 post read. “He cares deeply about his little sister — a young lady, a minor. Given that, when he unexpectedly found her alone in the home with an 18-year-old man in the middle of the night, he was understandably concerned, as any brother would be about his sister.
“However, we don’t believe what followed happened the way it’s been described, and we look forward to the opportunity to address that in court.”
Beverley played in the NBA from 2012 through to 2024, logging minutes with the Rockets, Clippers, Timerwolves, 76ers, Lakers, Bucks and Bulls.
In retirement, he co-hosted a popular podcast with Barstool Sports’ Adam Ferrone, though he stepped away from it in the days after his arrest.
