The A.J. Brown's situation with the Philadelphia Eagles continues to linger as the second half of the season gets underway. The wide receiver has been at the center of controversy since the beginning of the season, after openly expressing frustration about his lack of targets.

Dan Patrick waded in on the situation within the reigning Super Bowl winner's team on Friday in an episode of his eponymous podcast. The veteran broadcaster accused Brown of being selfish, considering the fact that things have been working out on the field for the team this season.

“This Eagles’ situation, I just don't get it with A.J. Brown,” Patrick said. “I don't know why he's upset. You're winning. You can get numbers. You can go get numbers. Go play with Cleveland. They'll throw you the ball 15 times.

“Do you want that, or do you want to play in a structured offense that maybe you're not going to get as many targets? But you're going to win. And last I looked, isn't he getting paid like $30 million? This isn't about a paycheck; it feels like being selfish. And in a sport like football, you can't have it.”

A.J. Brown led the Eagles in receiving yards in the last three seasons, playing a crucial role in the Super Bowl victory last season. However, with 31 receptions for 408 yards and three touchdowns this year, he's behind Devonta Smith by more than 200 receiving yards.

Dan Patrick can't understand why A.J. Brown isn't comfortable with the thriving Eagles team

Building a successful team in the NFL is a difficult task. Sustaining the success is even more complex in the keenly competitive landscape. The Eagles have built one of the most consistent teams in the NFL, and Dan Patrick can't understand why A.J. Brown isn't okay with that.

He's got a quarterback who is not a great, consistent passer,” Patrick said. “But he's a winner. I'm not taking anything away from Jalen Hurts. I've said this before. If he's going to be thrown 35 times a game, the Eagles aren't going to win those games. “When it's balanced, he'll make big plays. You have guys who can make big plays. You have two really good receivers. You have a really good tight end. You have a great running back. Why mess with this? That's what I don't understand.”

With a 7-2 record, the Eagles remain one of the teams projected to win the Super Bowl this season. Nick Sirianni has consistently noted in his media availability that he's counting on A.J. Brown in the bid to retain the league championship this season despite the situation.
