Digital comics reading platform GlobalComix has announced a major upgrade to its PanelFlow™ technology, introducing a suite of intuitive, AI-assisted tools aimed at enhancing storytelling while firmly prioritizing ethical use of artificial intelligence. The overhaul introduces smarter object detection, SAM Assist integration, and creator-first design, marking what the company calls a “transformative” leap forward for digital comics. The new PanelFlow™ is a redesigned AI-assisted framework that helps creators more easily frame comic panels and guide readers through their stories without relying on generative AI or training on creator-owned content. Instead, the system focuses on intelligent segmentation, identifying lines, objects, and negative space to provide non-intrusive layout suggestions.

The update is a direct response to growing concerns over how AI is used in creative fields. SAM Assist allows for highly precise object framing, particularly helpful in complex comic layouts where traditional panels are often broken by speech bubbles, sound effects, or characters that extend beyond borders.
With SAM, creators can fine-tune which elements to include or exclude in a panel—a game-changer for those who favor non-traditional layouts or highly stylized pages. “This results in more dynamic, high-fidelity panels that align with artistic intent while ensuring a smooth and immersive reader journey,” the press release noted.
Furthermore, the PanelFlow™ editor itself has been revamped with new keyboard shortcuts and usability improvements designed to help creators think like directors—pacing and framing their stories with cinematic precision.
