Gigi Hadid Defends Elsa Hosk Against Victoria's Secret Show Criticism

Gigi Hadid knows these critics have never walked the walk.

After Victoria’s Secret angel Elsa Hosk—a veteran model who walked in eight consecutive shows from 2011 to 2018—received criticism for her walk in the brand’s Oct. 18 event, Hadid addressed the noise.

“This really PMO,” Hadid wrote in a post on Threads Oct. 21, replying to a since-deleted post. “Elsa slayed this. I’m the biggest fan of the OG Angels; but even the scale & size of this runway is not comparable to the OG shows.”

Indeed, Hosk’s walk was being compared to that of Gisele Bündchen—who, while appearing in a pre-recorded video this year, has not walked in a Victoria’s Secret show since 2006—and Hadid emphasized that it takes a lot more power to fly on the runway these days.

“It’s a looong walk in the wings these days ++ they can be 75+lbs, 10+ ft tall, sometimes animatronic, etc,” she continued. “The wings are getting bigger bc the viewers love it & they’re MAJOR but NOT aero dynamic, then add the gust of runway fans!! It takes 3 men to take these wings off of us.”

Hadid—mom to Khai, 4, with ex Zayn Malik—also topped off her post with some praise to her fellow Angel.

“Elsa is stunning, strong, & carried these like a boss,” she wrote. “Y’all have no clue.”

And while Bündchen was being lauded as the blueprint for what makes a good runway walk, the former runway model has emphasized that she has “zero desire” to return to traditional fashion shows.

Indeed, Bündchen told Elle magazine in 2022 that designers ask her to return to the runway “every year,” she is much happier doing editorial shoots.

“It’s very easy for me to go there and create a character and play that role for the day,” the 46-year-old explained. “It fuels me. I feel inspired to go and create more beautiful things in the world in different ways, too.”
