Giants turned down at least one Rafael Devers trade offer from Red Sox

The entire baseball world was shocked on Father’s Day when the Boston Red Sox traded disgruntled All-Star third baseman Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants.

There was even more shock at how little of a package it took to acquire a talent like Devers; Boston fans are still upset about what they got in return.

For what it’s worth, the Red Sox tried to get the Giants to cough up their top prospects but to no avail.

According to Zachary Rotman of FanSided, the Giants turned down at least one Devers trade offer from the Red Sox.

“It took nearly four weeks of negotiations to agree on the player package,” wrote Rotman. “In the early stages, the Red Sox insisted upon 20-year-old first base prospect Bryce Eldridge but the Giants refused to consider including him in the deal.

“Not only did the Red Sox fail to pry Eldridge away, but they didn't get prospects who are higher-rated than the best prospect they received, James Tibbs III, according to most, like Carson Whisenhunt and Josuar De Jesus Gonzalez.”

First-year president of baseball operations Buster Posey was able to pull off the blockbuster trade without giving up Eldridge and Hayden Birdsong.

“Red Sox fans weren't happy when the deal went down, and the fact that they tried and failed to get a better return before settling on the underwhelming package will only make them more frustrated.”
