The San Francisco Giants could end up losing a major piece of the starting rotation this winter.
San Francisco made a surprising move last offseason as it landed superstar Blake Snell. He signed very late and ended up landing a short-term team in which he opted out of after the season. Snell is a free agent once again after staring for San Francisco in 2024.
Snell struggled out of the gate, but turned things around in the second half and looked like one of the best pitchers in baseball. The Giants likely want to keep him around for the foreseeable future, but he will be a hot commodity and is projected to get a $131 million deal this winter.
There will be plenty of teams looking to land him and CBS Sports' R.J. Anderson predicted he will end up signing with the Los Angeles Angels.
"Again, probably too cute," Anderson said. "We know the Angels want to upgrade their roster in an attempt to compete next season. We know that they had some past interest in Snell. You combine those elements and maybe they end up with the high bid. "
Los Angeles wouldn't be a bad landing spot for him by any means. The Angels are looking to add talent and need another ace after losing Shohei Ohtani last offseason. Los Angeles clearly has money to spend and Snell could fill that role.
The Angels are going to be an interesting team to watch this winter as they already have made a few moves while most teams have waited. Maybe they could strike with a massive deal of this size.
