Three teams that desperately need to upgrade their wide receivers rooms are the New York Giants, Pittsburgh Steelers and Buffalo Bills.
The Giants lost No. 1 wide receiver Malik Nabers for the season because of a torn ACL and now rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart is working with a lackluster pass-catcher group that could stunt his development.
In Pittsburgh, the Steelers are still in search of an adequate No. 2 receiver to pair with DK Metcalf, and the Buffalo Bills don't have a true No. 1 option with Keon Coleman not taking the step forward the team hoped he would in 2025.
One name that has been speculated about as a possible trade candidate is wide receiver Chris Olave of the New Orleans Saints.
The Athletic's Dianna Russini poured a bit of cold water on the idea that Olave could get traded after she revealed on Saturday he and the Saints have been trying to get a contract extension done, which indicates New Orleans wants to keep him.
However, CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones reports that people around the league believe that because the two sides have yet to reach an agreement, that could leave the door open for Olave to get moved. Here's what Jones said exactly:
There had been talk early in the season that the Saints were working to extend Chris Olave, but sources have wondered if the absence of an extension a third of the way through the season means he can be moved.
Olave has a long injury history, but being under contract next year makes him an attractive trade target for teams who want to add a receiver. The Saints (1-6) have resisted the rebuild many around the league think they need to endure, and sending away Spencer Rattler/Tyler Shough's top receiver won't help the young men in 2025.
You can make an argument both for and against the Saints trading Olave, who is no doubt a very talented receiver, as evidenced by his two 1,000-yard seasons despite lackluster quarterback play.
He's still just 25 years old and is young enough to be part of the team's long-term plans. Adding to that, he's still under contract through 2026 and the Saints might want to keep him to help their young quarterbacks out.
On the flip side, Olave's history with concussions is a concern, and he would net a big return in a trade, as he'd easily be the top wideout available on the market. We know the Saints could definitely use draft capital to help with a rebuild, assuming New Orleans does indeed go down that road (they should).
Olave would provide a massive upgrade for the Giants, Bills and Steelers.
Not only would he offer a solid No. 1 target for Dart now, but having Olave in 2026 and combining him with Nabers would give Dart everything he needs to succeed moving forward.
In Pittsburgh, Olave would shore up the No. 2 wide receiver role through next year, and the former first-round pick can offer the first true No. 1 wideout for Josh Allen since the team parted ways with Stefon Diggs.
We would expect all three teams to be very interested in Olave if he hits the block, but it remains to be seen if that will actually happen.
