Giants staff searching for consistency despite Landen Roupp's rise

Heading into the 2026 season, it was thought that the San Francisco Giants would have little trouble with their starting pitching staff. They have guys like Logan Webb, Robbie Ray, Adrian Houser, Tyler Mahle, and Landen Roupp.

However, one of the only bright spots in this rotation has been Roupp. He has started four games, compiling a 3-1 record with a 2.38 ERA and 24 strikeouts on 22.2 innings of work.

He has done much better than the staff ace, Webb, who has made five starts, compiling a 2-2 record with a blistering 5.40 ERA, and Houser, who holds an 0-2 record with a 5,40 ERA as well.

The state of the starting staff would not be so concerning if the offense could score more runs. They currently have scored just 75 runs, which is the second-worst across MLB and just three more than the New York Mets have.

A shaky offense and an even shakier starting staff have led to their 9-13 start. If it weren't for Roupp and a solid bullpen, this start could be much worse, and according to Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter, he ranks the Giants 24th in his latest power ranking.

"Early inconsistency from Logan Webb, Tyler Mahle and Adrian Houser has left the Giants with a middling [4.15 ERA] from the starting staff. However, Landen Roupp has quietly been one of baseball's biggest breakout pitchers, and the bullpen has also been solid for a team that leans heavily on its arms."

The rest of the club's matchups this month could either make or break the team. They start a three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday before a weekend series against the Miami Marlins and then a trip to Philly to take on the Philadelphia Phillies to end May.

If they can take a few from the Dodgers and the Marlins, this team will be in a much higher position next week when the newest power rankings come out.
