Giants scratch WR with 4.4 40, setting up a trade

The New York Giants went a bit off the board for their wide receiver decisions in Week 8.

They've got Darius Slayton back, which left one less available active slot to take on the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Giants chose to fill that by again elevating Lil'Jordan Humphrey from the practice squad.

They then left Jalin Hyatt inactive.

The former Tennessee star with a 4.4-second 40-yard dash is now the odd man out.

That could set up a trade as the NFL's deadline approaches on Nov. 4.

"Jalen Hyatt just had a conversation with GM Joe Schoen on the bench while the other wide receivers warmed up," ESPN's Jordan Raanan wrote on X. "He’s inactive with Darius Slayton back and Lil’Jordan Humphrey elevated. Now you have to wonder if he’s moved prior to the trade deadline."

The Giants enter Week 8 at 2-5 after their brutal loss to the Broncos a week ago. That record could certainly set them up to be sellers before the deadline.

Hyatt isn't the classic guy a rebuilding team sells. He's still young and has talent.

He more fits the mold of the player who might just need a change of scenery.

If the Giants truly feel Humphrey is a better option than Hyatt at this point, that's not a great outlook for Hyatt going forward. They're different types of players, which may be part of the reason Hyatt sits on Sunday. Humphrey is a much better catch-point receiver, while Hyatt is better at going deep.

Regardless, there could be some changes brewing with the Giants sooner rather than later.
