Giants say there’s ‘no truth to’ Kayvon Thibodeaux trade rumors

Are the Giants trading Kayvon Thibodeaux?

If you were all over social media Friday night, it seemed as if Thibodeaux was already packing up and moving out. He even posted a video on his Instagram account from “The Fast and the Furious’’ showing a character saying “Goodbye.’’

Well, hold off on calling the moving van.

“No, nothing’s changed,’’ general manager Joe Schoen said Friday night. “I wish I could just put everything in the Twittersphere.

“There’s no truth to that. We have not had any conversations today about Kayvon, that’s not true.’’

The rumblings have been brewing for quite some time and gained strength Thursday night after they took linebacker Arvell Reese with the No. 5 overall pick. That prompted speculation that they would look to deal Thibodeaux, given that they added Reese to a defensive front that includes Brian Burns, Abdul Carter and free agent addition Tremaine Edmunds.

Not long after taking Reese, new head coach John Harbaugh was asked about the possibility of moving Thibodeaux out in a trade.

“No, no, we keep all the good players as much as we can,’’ Harbaugh said. “Right? We love Kayvon.’’

Seated nearby, Schoen nodded and said “Yup.’’

Then reports swirled Friday that the Giants were engaged in talks with the Saints to send Thibodeaux to New Orleans. Schoen shot those reports down, saying he had not spoken to anyone about Thibodeaux — Schoen’s first-ever draft pick for the Giants (No. 5 overall in 2022).

The Giants picked up the fifth-year option on Thibodeaux, guaranteeing him $14.75 million for the 2026 season. He is unlikely to be with the Giants in 2027. If he plays well, he probably would price himself out of a return, given the investment already in place for Burns and the expected second contract for Carter. If Thibodeaux plays poorly, there would be reason for the Giants to move on.

Thibodeaux, 25, in 53 starts has 23.5 sacks, 31 tackles for loss and 55 quarterback hits. He played in all 17 games only once, in 2023, when he broke out with a career-high 11.5 sacks and looked as if he might fulfill his lofty draft status.

Last season, he was limited to only 10 games because of a shoulder injury and finished with 5.5 sacks.
