It's really happening.
Rafael Devers is playing first base.
The San Francisco Giants released their lineup for Tuesday night's matchup with the Braves, and Devers is slotted in as the first baseman.
It'll be Devers' first career start as an MLB first baseman.
Devers had only played DH this season up to this point between Boston and San Francisco.
Before this year, Devers was the third baseman for the Red Sox. But when they signed Alex Bregman in the offseason, Devers was slid into the hitting-only role.
He wasn't thrilled, and expressed that, but by opening day, he was just the DH.

Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas sustained a season-ending injury in the early going, and Boston tried to see if Devers would learn that position to take over, but he refused.
Upon his shocking trade to the Giants, Devers expressed more openness to learning first base (San Francisco is set at third with Matt Chapman).
Now, Devers will get his first chance over there.
It's not as easy a position at the MLB level as people make it out to be, so it'll be interesting to see how Devers performs.
But it's encouraging just to see the Giants making this move at all. It's a step in the right direction.
