The San Francisco Giants have some work to do this offseason if they want to contend in 2025. The past few offseasons, they have been in on several top free agents, only to watch them sign elsewhere.
Recent examples include Aaron Judge, Carlos Correa and Shohei Ohtani.
This offseason could finally be the one in which they add a star player to their lineup. Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller listed them as a potential landing spot for Milwaukee Brewers star shortstop Willy Adames.
"It sure seems like he's destined for the NL West, either with the Dodgers or the Giants.
L.A.'s interest level is indirectly proportional to how serious it is about reconverting Mookie Betts to the middle infield," Miller wrote.
"If the Dodgers are on the fence in any way, though, the Giants could pounce. They've already said they want to bring in a s shortstop this offseason, and goodness knows they are overdue for landing a big fish in free agency."
Obviously, the Giants haven't had much luck in terms of landing top free agents and signing them to long-term deals. However, this offseason could finally be the one in which they land one.
The 29-year-old shortstop hit .251 with 32 home runs, 112 RBI, 21 stolen bases and a .794 OPS. He also had a 118 OPS+ and was worth 3.1 Wins Above Replacement.
He could give the Giants a significant boost offensively, as well as a better chance to contend for a postseason spot in 2025 and beyond. They need a middle-of-the-order bat to build around, and Adames could be the missing link.
Adames won't come cheap, but it's worth it for the Giants to have a look at him.
