The New York Giants, Detroit Lions, Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills could all be looking for guard help this offseason.
One of the Giants' starting guards, Greg Van Roten, is a pending free agent, and the Bills have the same situation with David Edwards. Meanwhile, the Browns have a pair of starting guards slated to hit free agency in Wyatt Teller and Joel Bitonio.
In Detroit, the Lions could shift 2025 draft pick Tate Ratledge over to center, which would leave a hole at one of their guard spots.
Ahead of free agency, the Bills, Lions, Giants and Browns were all named possible suitors for the aforementioned Edwards by CBS Sports' Zachary Pereles, although Pereles believes the Bills are the best landing spot for the veteran guard.
The Bills don't have much cap room, but keeping their outstanding offensive line should be top of mind for newly promoted Brandon Beane. Other suitors: Browns, Lions, Giants
Edwards has been an above-average starter for the Bills the past two years and had his best season as a starter in 2025, when he gave up up three sacks, 27 pressures and posted Pro Football Focus grades of 69.0 and 73.0 in run-blocking and pass-blocking, respectively.
Spotrac projects Edwards will land a three-year, $59.7 million deal in free agency, which is very possible given the demand for starting-caliber offensive linemen.
All four teams aren't in great shape financially, so signing Edwards will take some creativity from their general managers.
The Giants have the most cap space out of the four, but only have $6.9 million to work with. The Browns come in second with $3.2 million.
Meanwhile, the Bills are $7.4 million over and the Lions are $8.5 over.
But given how important offensive line play is, we could see any one of these teams doing what is necessary to land one of the best available guards in free agency.
