Giants have no choice but to rewrite their season script to beat Bears

CHICAGO — As Brian Burns listened intently to the question, his facial expression turned sour, as if he’d just eaten something rotten. 

The Giants run defense owns the second-worst ranking in the NFL. The Bears rushing offense is ranked second in the league. 

So, naturally, the question posted to Burns centered around the “challenge” the run defense will face Sunday when they play the Bears at Soldier Field in what, statistically, looks like a gross mismatch based on the teams’ respective strengths and weaknesses. 

That’s when Burns, the Giants edge rusher who leads the NFL with 11 sacks and has been their best player, had a point to make.
