Giants get 'serious' injury report on ex-Steelers WR Calvin Austin III

The New York Giants are heading into the 2026 NFL season with a lot of optimism about the young players on offense, but since Malik Nabers, Cam Skattebo, and Jaxson Dart are all injury red flags, having quality depth is important.

At wide receiver, it's more important than ever, as outside of Nabers, there is a lot of uncertainty with this room. Behind him are Darius Slayton, Calvin Austin III, Darnell Mooney, Malachi Fields, Braxton Berrios, and Odell Beckham Jr.

Unfortunately, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Giants might've just lost Austin for much of the 2026 season due to what was called a "serious knee injury" at practice on Tuesday, August 25.

"Giants WR Calvin Austin was carted off today from practice with what one source described as a 'serious knee injury,'" Schefter reports.

This is a worrying update for the Giants on one of their offseason free-agent pickups at the WR position. Austin was likely headed towards a role as the slot receiver in New York, but now he might miss some time.

The full extent of this injury isn't yet known, but considering this report from Schefter indicates it's a "serious" issue doesn't bode well for Austin.

The 27-year-old former fourth-round pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers caught 84 passes in three seasons for 1,100 yards and eight touchdowns in 48 games played.

Last season for Pittsburgh with Aaron Rodgers, Austin caught 31 of 55 passes for 372 yards and three touchdowns.

Now with the Giants, he was slated for a role in the slot, which now likely falls to Berrios with Austin banged up.

Austin might miss some time with this serious knee injury, and it only further heightens the shaky nature of the Giants WR room this season.
