Giants get 'just right' projected win total that would be disappointing

There are plenty of teams in the NFL that have a lot of hype coming into the 2026 season, but the New York Giants might be one of the most hyped teams in the league.

Jaxson Dart, Cam Skattebo, Malik Nabers, John Harbaugh, Abdul Carter, Brian Burns, and many others make up this Giants team that could be in store for a big 2026 season.

However, despite the hype, Dan Duggan of The Athletic revealed a projected win total that's "just right," despite the 7.1 projected wins being a very disappointing season outcome for the Giants.

"Projected wins: 7.1. Verdict: Just right," Duggan writes. "This may seem like a disappointment in John Harbaugh's first season, but there needs to be an understanding of the situation the Super Bowl champion coach inherited."

The Giants winning seven games during the 2026 season would certainly be underwhelming considering all of the hype coming into the year.

But, when considering the last couple of seasons, where they, as Duggan notes, have won just seven games over the last two seasons, this seven-win projection for 2026 wouldn't be so bad.

A 7-10 season isn't great, but it's progress, which is something this team hasn't had in some time. Besides, this is Harbaugh's first year with the team, and all of Dart, Nabers, and Skattebo are still young.

Carter is young as well, and with Arvell Reese and other key players on the roster not nearing the end of their careers, this might be a more long-term plan for the Giants.

Sure, would a seven-win season be disappointing? A little, yes. But, considering this is just the start of Harbaugh's time with the Giants, and it's a young roster, one step at a time might not be such a bad outcome.

This wouldn't be the ideal season Giants fans are hoping to see, but it's year one with Harbaugh, and equaling the win total they've had across the last two seasons would be a good start in their rebuild, trying to return to playoff relevance in the NFC East.
