Teams would prefer a win over a tie in football or any sport, really, but when it comes to a tie vs. losing, a tie wins every time. So, the New York Giants closed out their game with the Washington Commanders with a tie score, which wasn't ideal, but it was better than a loss.

Following the game, after the other NFC East matchups shook out, the Giants got some good news: they're still No. 1 in the NFC East. It's an especially major accomplishment since this team was last in the NFC East to round out last season.

ESPN points this out in a piece out on Monday looking at Week 5 games.

The New York Giants are finding ways to stay on top

For the Giants, they note, "After finishing their past two games with game-sealing interceptions in the final minute, the Giants rallied from down 14 points early in the fourth quarter to send it to overtime."

They add, "It's the opposite of last season, when the Giants blew five double-digit leads. Now, New York has a 1.5-game lead atop the NFC East."

So, how do they keep it up? That's the golden question. This team is without their franchise quarterback, Jaxson Dart. So, it's not easy, but they did trade for J.J. McCarthy. Plus, Jameis Winston surely isn't doing a bad job filling in for Dart. So, they have options. One almost has to wonder if head coach John Harbaugh regrets the McCarthy trade, seeing that this team is No. 1 with him on the bench.
