The San Francisco Giants had a busy Friday in the transaction department.

That started with a designation for assignment of veteran big league catcher Andrew Knizner. Knizner spent the first five seasons of his career with the St. Louis Cardinals before splitting the last two seasons with the Texas Rangers and San Francisco.

He has posted a career slash line of .211/.281/.316 with just 19 career home runs. Knizner has eclipsed five home runs just once and has more often than not served as a backup catcher on each roster he's been a part of. He will now likely hit the open market and make his way to the fourth team of his major league career.

The second of the two moves from the Giants came in a trade with the Miami Marlins. San Francisco acquired outfielder Joey Wiemer in exchange for cash considerations.

Weimer has struggled to find his footing in the big leagues, posting a disappointing career slash line of .205/.279/.359. Wiemer showed flashes as a rookie, slugging 13 home runs, 19 doubles and swiping 11 bases. Since then, though, he's not been able to find his footing, as he'll now be a part of his fourth team in four seasons.

First-year manager Tony Vitello will certainly have a major task on his hands in 2026 with trying to get his San Francisco team into the postseason for the first time in four seasons.
