The San Francisco Giants' best move in the Rafael Devers trade, other than actually getting Devers from the Red Sox, had to do with a player they refused to trade.
Boston reportedly wanted Bryce Eldridge, but the Giants said no.
And on Tuesday night, everything looked like the right move.
Devers crushed a double to the deepest part of the ballpark in San Francisco. And down at Triple-A Sacramento, the 20-year old Eldridge destroyed a home run.

Eldridge is the best first base prospect in baseball. To earn that title, you have to rake and show the potential to be one of the top hitters on the planet.
The 6-foot-7, 240-pound, lefty-swinging Eldridge has all those attributes.
He hasn't been on fire for the whole Triple-A season thus far, but he's up to 10 homers in 171 at bats.
In his minor league career, Eldridge has an .870 OPS.

Eventually, Eldridge may actually force the Giants to make a Devers position decision. One of them is likely stuck as a long-term DH while the other plays first.
But the Giants should be able to handle that more gracefully than the Red Sox did.
The important part is that they still have Eldridge to force their hand, probably sooner rather than later.
He'll be taking aim for McCovey Cove soon enough.
