It's that exciting time right before the regular season kicks off when every NFL team has released its 53-man roster. What's not to love about the kickoff of September and football being back?
For John Harbaugh and the New York Giants, this is a huge year for them. It's Harbaugh's chance to make a good first impression on this franchise, and it's also this team's chance to bounce back from another poor season last year.
When the Giants revealed their 53-man roster, one move stuck out. It's giving a second chance to a player, and that's always a beautiful thing.
Odell Beckham Jr. earns a second chance with Giants
On Monday, ESPN released a list with of the most significant roster moves for each NFL team. For the Giants, it wasn't a cut at all. It was seeing one player's name on that roster: Odell Beckham Jr.
This guy "solidified his spot on the initial 53-man roster with a strong summer, during which he participated in every practice after a year out of the league," Jordan Raanan of ESPN notes. "Coach John Harbaugh told Beckham when the receiver signed with the team in June that nothing was given. He had to earn a roster spot."
Raanan adds, "Beckham was one of five wide receivers to make the initial roster. Wide receiver/returner Braxton Berrios was released, but as a vested veteran, the Giants are assured of him returning to the practice squad with the intention of being active Week 1. Former high draft picks Evan Neal and Jalin Hyatt were also cut."
So it was a bit of a shakeup at wideout, but for Beckham, it was a good thing.
