Giants announce decision on calling up top pitching prospect Carson Whisenhunt for MLB debut

The San Francisco Giants don't have time to waste if they want to stay in the playoff race.

That's at least part of the reason they've called up their top pitching prospect to start on Monday.

That'd be Carson Whisenhunt, the big lefty.

Carson Whisenhunt will start tomorrow. It’ll be the MLB debut for the organization’s top pitching prospect.

Whisenhunt was originally a second-round pick by the Giants in 2022 out of East Carolina.

Now 24 years old, the 6-foot-3, 214-pound southpaw is ready for his big league debut.

At Triple-A Sacramento this season in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League, Whisenhunt has a 4.42 ERA and 7.9 strikeouts per nine innings.

Previously in his minor league career, he's never had fewer than 10.8 strikeouts per nine innings at any level.

Whisenhunt isn't listed as a top-100 prospect by MLB.com, but he's the best the Giants have on the mound. In the absence of other options, he's what they have to try to keep this thing going.
