Giants’ Abdul Carter gets brutal news as he prepares for rookie season after NFL Draft

Abdul Carter can't catch a break.

The New York Giants' No. 3 overall pick out of Penn State simply wants to find what number he'll wear on his NFL uniform. But it hasn't been easy.

First, Carter hoped to break out No. 56, which is retired for legendary Lawrence Taylor. Taylor said no.

Then, Carter went after his Penn State No. 11. That's retired for Phil Simms.

Simms initially said OK, but on Friday, he announced he was "outvoted by my family" and the number would be staying retired.

Carter joked on social media that he didn't need a number at this point.

Damn at this point imma be out there with just my last name on my jersey, no number😂😂😂 Jkjk, It’s all Love. Just wanna play Football!

Whatever number Carter winds up with now will be an entirely fresh start for him. He wore No. 22 in high school, digits typically reserved for other positions in the NFL.

The Giants will care less about the number on Carter's back than the numbers he puts up on the field.

If he's the next Micah Parsons clone out of PSU, New York will be thrilled.

But in both his jersey and his play, Carter will now be hoping to make his own mark.
