Giannis Antetokounmpo’s mother picked an interesting time to reminisce.
Veronica Antetokounmpo shared a throwback photo on Facebook of the former two-time NBA MVP standing on the court at Kaseya Center, home of the Miami Heat, after a Wednesday report that the Bucks star forward wants a trade out of Milwaukee.
Although Veronica, a former high jumper in Nigeria, didn’t include a caption in her post, the snapshot of her son in the 305 was enough to get fans buzzing about a potential Antetokounmpo-Heat union.
The Heat have been linked to Antetokounmpo in recent trade rumors over the past few months, and he and Miami star Bam Adebayo have the same agent, Alex Saratsis of Octagon.
ESPN reported earlier Wednesday that Antetokounmpo wants a trade out of Milwaukee as soon as the NBA trade deadline on Feb. 5.
Several rival teams reportedly made aggressive offers to the Bucks for Antetokounmpo and Milwaukee is listening.
However, the Bucks aren’t rushing to trade their star player without getting young talent at a good price and/or a surplus of draft picks in return, according to ESPN.
The 10-time NBA All-Star reportedly informed the Bucks that he wants out earlier in the season.
The Knicks were considered Antetokounmpo’s preferred destination when trade reports surfaced in the offseason and will try to acquire the 2020 Defensive Player of the Year.
Antetokounmpo, 31, will become eligible to sign a four-year, $275 million supermax extension on Oct. 1.
He is currently sidelined after sustaining a right calf strain in Friday’s home loss to the Denver Nuggets.
The Bucks are 18-27 and 12th in the Eastern Conference.
Antetokounmpo — who was drafted 15th overall by the Bucks in 2013 — helped bring an NBA title to Milwaukee in 2021 and was named Finals MVP.
