The second of the Women's Euro 2025 semifinals kicks off on Wednesday as Germany face Spain at the Letzigrund, Zurich in front of 30,000 spectators.
This match promises to be electrifying, as two giants of women's football meet each other to vie for the chance to face either England or Italy in the final.
Germany enjoyed a practically unbeatable monopoly over the WEUROS trophy between 1995 and 2013 and have won an incredible eight of the possible 13 titles.
However, Spain are a worthy opponent. The current world champions beat England 1-0 in the 2023 final and have gone from strength to strength, having scored 16 goals thus far in the competition — a tally only beaten by England in 2022, and Germany in 2009.
The last major meeting between these sides was during the Olympics in 2024, when Germany won the bronze-medal match. Now that another piece of silverware is beginning to glisten on the horizon, Spain will be willing to do whatever it takes to stop Germany from defeating them once more.

Spain vs. Germany starting lineups, team news
Spain's star-studded squad have taken the Women's Euros by storm thus far, winning all of their qualifying matches and all of their group games.
Their team includes the legendary Barcelona midfield combination of Alexia Putellas, Aitana Bonmati and Patri Guijarro, who have effortlessly controlled the ball throughout the tournament, as well as the viciously effective forward Esther Gonzalez, who is in the running to win the Golden Boot.
Spain are known for their technicality and refusal to give up — two things Germany are also renowned for — which suggests this could be an incredibly explosive match.
Spain predicted lineup (4-2-3-1, right to left): Coll (GK) — Batlle, Paredes, Mendez, Olga — Bonmati, Patri, Putellas — Caldentey, Gonzalez, Pina
Full Spain squad

It has been a rollercoaster of a competition for Germany. Despite managing to reach the semifinals — their 11th in 12 editions of the Euros — their progress has been marred by captain Giulia Gwinn being injured in their opening match, a 4-1 loss to Sweden, and a real battle in the knockout phase.
Their quarterfinal against France was no exception. Kathrin Hendrich's red card in the 13th minute meant that they played a player down for the vast majority of the game, and she will also be banned for the semifinal.
Despite this, Germany have proved again and again that their grit and determination cannot be underestimated. Goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger especially has emerged as one to watch, making nine saves — including two penalties in the shootout — and scoring the decisive spot-kick.
Germany's physical play and effortless execution of set-pieces will be a serious challenge to the Spanish. However, it will be anything but an easy match for the record winners, as they will be without Gwinn and Sarai Linder due to injury in addition to bans for Henrich and Sjoeke Nusken.
Germany predicted lineup (4-3-3, right to left): Berger (GK) — Kleinherne, Minge, Knaak, Kett — Senss, Dabritz, Brand — Dallmann, Buhl, Hoffmann
Injured: Linder (ankle), Gwinn (knee)
Suspended: Nusken (yellow-card accumulation), Henrich (red card)
Full Germany squad

Forwards: Jule Brand, Klara Buhl, Selina Cerci, Laura Freigang, Giovanna Hoffmann, Lea Schuller, Cora Zicai.
Spain vs. Germany score prediction
Spain have been a dominant force in the competition thus far, not letting any opponents get in the way of their fight to lift the Euros trophy. Given Germany's injured players and difficult run to this point, they will have to pull out a performance unlike anything yet seen in order to progress to the final.
Score prediction: Spain 3-1 Germany
