Georgia wins Dawg fight in Starkville over Mississippi State 41-21

Gunner Stockton threw for 264 yards and three touchdowns as No. 5 Georgia pulled away early to beat Mississippi State 41-21 on Saturday.

Georgia (8-1, 6-1 SEC) gave up a touchdown on the opening drive before scoring 38 straight points. “Really proud of our guys. I thought that was a total team effort in a really tough place to play,” UGA coach Kirby Smart said. “Our conditioning was the difference.”

Nate Frazier led a dominant rushing attack with 181 yards and a touchdown on just 12 carries as the Bulldogs rolled up 305 yards on the ground and averaged 7.3 yards per carry. Zachariah Branch caught eight passes for 68 yards and a score, while Noah Thomas added three receptions for 78 yards and a touchdown.

Mississippi State (5-5, 1-5 SEC) was held scoreless on six straight drives after its opening touchdown. Quarterback Blake Shapen exited in the third quarter with a head injury and did not return. Freshman Kamario Taylor replaced him and accounted for all three of the Bulldogs’ touchdowns.

“It’s frustrating,” MSU coach Jeff Lebby said. “We picked a bad time not to play our best against a really good football team.”

Georgia hosts Texas next week in a likely College Football Playoff elimination game. Mississippi State visits Missouri.
