Georgia Tech basketball has had a rough start to the season. The team is currently 8-10 and on a three-game losing streak, with losses to Syracuse, SMU, and Clemson. The most recent defeat came at the hands of Clemson, who won by double digits in front of their home crowd. Times are certainly tough in Atlanta right now.
Before this losing streak, the Yellow Jackets had been on a three-game winning streak, highlighting how quickly conference play can take a toll on a team if they're not careful. Georgia Tech has faced a particularly tough schedule, with losses to four top-25 ranked teams.
However, later this evening, Georgia Tech received some good news for the future as Mouhamed Sylla announced his commitment to the Yellow Jackets. According to On3, Sylla is ranked as the No. 1 center and a top-15 recruit in the 2025 class. He chose Georgia Tech over offers from Arkansas and Georgia. Sylla explained his decision to On3:
“I chose Georgia Tech because, on my visit, I felt like I was at home, and I also knew they could help me make it to the league,” Sylla said.
This commitment gives Georgia Tech a potent one-two punch at the center position, as sophomore Baye Ndongo is already playing at a high level. The 6'10" sophomore from Senegal is averaging 12 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game.
Sylla, known for his dominant defensive presence, is a shot-blocker and a disruptor of passes. He will make an immediate impact on that end of the floor. Offensively, he shows great potential—within five feet of the basket, he’s looking to finish with a dunk.
Georgia Tech has landed a huge commitment in Sylla, who is poised to make an immediate impact when he arrives. With the tandem of Ndongo and Sylla, the Yellow Jackets should have a formidable presence in the paint.
