Dawgs Central’s Graham Coffey believes Georgia QB Carson Beck and OC Mike Bobo had their legacies on the line, and delivered, during the Bulldogs’ dominant 31-17 win over Tennessee in college football’s Week 12.
Coffey sees the Vols as the perennial perfect get-back game in SEC play during the Kirby Smart era.
“This Georgia program was questioned all week. It felt like the fabric of its dominance was on the line, and the legacies of Carson Beck and Mike (Bobo) was too. Nothing brings UGA back to center under Kirby Smart like playing Tennessee. That’s 8 in a row, and THAT looked like UGA,” Coffey wrote.
Perhaps the Dawgs got right, but you wouldn’t have been able to tell from Smart’s demeanor postgame. During his televised postgame interview on the field, Smart called out the College Football Playoff Selection Committee for having unspecified criteria.
“I don't know. Because I don't know what they look for. I really don't know what they're looking for anymore. I would welcome anyone in that committee to come on down to this league and play in this environment,” Smart said during the broadcast.
Clearly, Smart took notice of the College Football Playoff Selection Committee’s preference to rank Big Ten teams in their 12-team field. Soon enough, many of those B1G teams will start cannibalizing each other; just as the SEC has been doing all season.
Georgia shows the College Football Playoff is still attainable during Bulldogs’ dominant Week 12 win over Tennessee
Beck finally looking like a championship-caliber QB changes Georgia’s trajectory immensely. If that turnover-heavy stretch against Ole Miss, Florida, and Texas is finally done, the Dawgs have an unlimited ceiling.
The Bulldogs’ defense didn’t have their best day, but limiting Nico Iamaleava and the Vols’ offense to 17 is a major victory – especially a week after being lit up by Jaxson Dart and the Rebels.
UMass and Georgia Tech are next. The SEC Championship likely won’t be since Alabama owns the tie-breaker.
But the College Football Playoff is back on the table in Athens.
