George Springer celebrated Canada Day in Toronto in style, and the Blue Jays gave fans even more reason to cheer. Toronto pulled within one game of the New York Yankees in the AL East standings with a 12-5 blowout win on Tuesday. Springer had a career day, driving in seven runs.
After the Yankees opened the scoring, it was all Toronto from there. Springer got things going in the fourth inning with his 12th home run of the season, a solo shot to center field. He went deep again in the seventh, this time launching a grand slam for his 13th homer of the year.

He wasn’t finished. In the bottom of the eighth, Springer singled to left-center, driving in Addison Barger and Andrés Giménez. He finished the game 3-for-4 with two runs scored and seven RBIs. It was one of the most productive offensive games of his career and a timely spark for a Toronto team looking to build momentum in the second half of the season.
The Blue Jays recorded just eight hits but worked six walks against Yankees pitching. Giménez had a strong night at the plate as well, collecting two hits. Toronto capitalized on nearly every scoring opportunity and stayed aggressive on the basepaths.
Mark Leiter Jr. took the loss for New York. He allowed one hit and two runs while recording just one out.
These two teams meet again on Wednesday, with Will Warren slated to start for the Yankees and José Berríos on the mound for Toronto.
