George Clooney will no longer get too close to his female co-stars on screen — after having a serious conversation with his wife, Amal Clooney, regarding the matter.
“I’ve been trying to go the route Paul Newman did – ‘Okay, well, I’m not kissing a girl anymore,'” the “Ocean’s Eleven” star, 64, told the Daily Mail in a newly published interview.
“When I turned 60, I had a conversation with my wife,” he continued. “I said, ‘Look, I can still play basketball with the boys. I play with 25-year-old guys. I can still hang, I’m in shape. But in 25 years, I’m 85 years old. It doesn’t matter how many granola bars you eat, that’s a real number.’”
Clooney first became a Hollywood heartthrob when he joined the popular medical drama “ER” as Dr. Doug Ross in 1994.
He went on to star in several films that saw him kissing women on the big screen, including Michelle Pfeiffer in “One Fine Day,” Jennifer Lopez in “Out of Sight,” Natascha McElhone in “Solaris,” Vera Farmiga in “Up in the Air,” Violante Placido in “The American” and, most recently, Julia Roberts in “Ticket to Paradise.”
The “Gravity” actor appeared to hint at his decision earlier this year when he told “60 Minutes” that he would no longer star in “romantic films” due to his age.
“Look, I’m 63 years old. I’m not trying to compete with 25-year-old leading men,” Clooney declared in March. “That’s not my job. I’m not doing romantic films anymore.”
However, the “Batman & Robin” star was apparently criticized for his on-screen “moves” when he was first starting out in Hollywood in the early ’80s.
“I remember early on in my career, I had to do a kissing scene with this girl, and the director goes, ‘Not like that,'” Clooney recalled during an interview with The New York Times in 2022.
“And I was like, ‘Dude, that’s my move! That’s what I do in real life!’” he added at the time.
Clooney married Amal, 47, in 2014. The couple welcomed twins Ella and Alexander, 8, in June 2017.
The “Jay Kelly” star opened up about his family and why they decided to ditch the glitz and glamor of Los Angeles for Europe during a candid chat with Esquire in October.
“We’re very lucky,” he told the outlet. “You know, we live on a farm in France.”
“A good portion of my life growing up was on a farm, and as a kid, I hated the whole idea of it,” Clooney continued. “But now, for them, it’s like — they’re not on their iPads, you know? They have dinner with grown-ups and have to take their dishes in. They have a much better life.”
But the “Gravity” star was also concerned about raising Ella and Alexander in Tinseltown.
“I was worried about raising our kids in LA, in the culture of Hollywood,” he explained. “I felt like they were never going to get a fair shake at life.”
“France, they kind of don’t give a s–t about fame,” Clooney added. “I don’t want them to be walking around worried about paparazzi. I don’t want them being compared to somebody else’s famous kids.”
