Geno Smith had an excellent practice on Thursday as the Las Vegas Raiders continue with training camp.
According to Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Smith didn't throw a single incomplete pass during the team's 11-on-11 drills and was on point all day on Thursday.
"A lot of situational and unscripted work during 11 on 11's for the Raiders today, including third downs. I don't recall Geno Smith throwing one incomplete pass. He was spraying it all over the field today," Bonsignore wrote on X.
Ryan McFadden of ESPN also stated that Smith threw three touchdowns during the 7-on-7 session of practice.
"Smith threw his third TD of red zone 7 on 7. This time, he connected with Brock Bowers," McFadden wrote on X.
It also looks like Smith has won over his teammates, as backup quarterback Aidan O'Connell heaped heavy praise on the veteran signal-caller.
“Super impressive. One of the more impressive quarterbacks I’ve been around. Both on the field and in leadership," O'Connell said of Smith via Sean Zittel of Vegas Sports Today.
The Raiders gave up a third-round pick for Smith and also signed him to a $75 million extension this offseason that will keep him in Las Vegas until 2028. The 34-year-old is expected to be a major upgrade over Gardner Minshew and O'Connell as the starter, and so far, he's putting together an impressive training camp.
During his three seasons as the starting quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks, Smith led the team to three straight winning seasons and was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2022 and 2023. He completed a career-high 70.4% of his passes in 2024, though he did struggle with interceptions, tossing 15 picks.
If Smith can clean up the turnovers and continue playing efficient football, the Raiders have a chance to return to the playoffs for the first time since 2021 and establish themselves as future contenders in the AFC.
