The conclusion of the 2025 season could be Lane Kiffin’s swan song in Oxford, Mississippi. According to On3’s Andy Staples, the Florida Gators have already offered Kiffin the head coaching gig.
It just depends on whether Kiffin wants to take it. If so, an announcement could reportedly be made right after the conclusion of the regular season.
“They're gonna try and hire Lane Kiffin - he's either gonna take it or not, but you're not gonna find that out for at least 6 weeks,” Staples said.
Of course, the season’s result will determine whether Kiffin makes that career-changing move. If Kiffin can win at Ole Miss, there’s no reason to leave. He’ll want to become Mississippi’s version of Nick Saban in Alabama. That’ll always be the ghost he’s chasing.
If, by after the Egg Bowl, the Rebs aren’t playing for anything meaningful, though, it’s easy to picture Kiffin taking the leap and aiming to be great in Gainesville. Kiffin has already worked in the Sunshine State before, with the FAU Owls, and it was a successful venture. Kiffin has been at Ole Miss longer than any other head coaching gig, so no longer is he a job-hopper.
He could be a rich man if he hops to just one more job, though. While Curt Cignetti set the standard on contract extensions with his eight-year, $93 million deal with the Indiana Hoosiers, Kiffin could be the first new head coach to cash in on the new market.
At UF, he’ll have a much bigger alumni base and more donor potential. It helps that government officials have a vested interest in the Gators, with the United States Secretary of State’s son on the team and the governor tweeting about the state’s flagship public school.
There’s more viral potential in Florida. More material for X and the like. And given everything else UF offers, more of almost everything Kiffin can want in an employer.
The clock is ticking on his decision.
