Game balls from Jets’ 30-10 romp over Packers in preseason Week 1

It’s not going to count towards their 2025 season record, but Saturday night’s performance from the New York Jets went about as well as it could have. Head coach Aaron Glenn’s defense suffocated Green Bay’s offense, allowing just 64 passing yards in total, the offense moved down the field at will, and special teams were special. In the end, the Jets thumped the Green Bay Packers 30-10, handing Glenn a victory in his first preseason game as head coach.

Here’s three players in particular who stood out above the rest with their performance.

1. Justin Fields

Fields only played in the Jets’ opening drive, but it was an impressive one. He went 3-for-4 for 42 yards passing, took zero sacks, and capped things off with a 13-yard touchdown scamper that was reminiscent of his best moments in Chicago.

It was only one drive and offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand likely wasn’t asking Fields to do too much. But I listed Fields as one of 4 new Jets players to watch before the game and said that all he needed to do was get the little things right to have a successful preseason debut, and that’s what he did. That’s why he gets the first game ball.

2. Jay Tufele

I wish I’d included Tufele in my pregame article because Tufele played like a man on fire. He dominated Green Bay’s offensive line to the tune of 1.5 sacks, 4 QB pressures, 2 QB hits, and a defensive touchdown off a fumble recovery.

The Jets of course have no shortage of talent along their defensive line, but an injury to Quinnen Williams has opened a door of opportunity for Tufele to get more playing time and he barged right through.

3. Qwan’tez Stiggers

How about some love for the special teams? Stiggers was a Packer-seeking missile on Saturday night, racking up three tackles including one that pinned the Packers at their own 4-yard line which set up the Jay Tufele fumble recovery for a touchdown. This last game ball goes to Stiggers for his tremendous hustle and hard-hitting plays.
