Future NFL Melbourne club revealed? Collingwood partnership provides a big hint

NFL giant Seattle Seahawks has planted a flag in Australia, signalling their intention in the region by linking up with AFL powerhouse Collingwood.

Two days before Melbourne's MCG hosts a historic NFL regular season match between the LA Rams and San Francisco 49ers, the Seahawks and Magpies have announced a strategic partnership that will 'unite two of the world’s most passionate supporter bases' via a statement from Collingwood.

The NFL signed a deal with the Victorian Government to play two regular season matches in Melbourne over four years - with an option for a third game.

Seattle have just made it clear to the NFL that they would like to participate in a regular-season match Down Under with their Collingwood alliance, who are arguably the biggest sports team in Australia.

Under the NFL Global Markets program, the Seahawks have marketing rights in Australia and New Zealand along with three other organisations - the Rams, Las Vegas Raiders and Philadelphia Eagles.

Intriguingly, the 49ers - who have instigated a lot of the promotion prior to Friday's Melbourne match against the Rams - do not have current marketing rights in the region.

Considering the likely success of the upcoming MCG game, with close to 100,000 people expected at the NFL match, it's likely at least two more games will be played in Melbourne under the terms of the contract.

The Seahawks have just made biggest play of all teams with marketing rights in the region to feature in at least one of those matches.

"The Seahawks are thrilled to partner with Collingwood FC, one of Australia's most iconic and successful sporting organizations," Isabelle Van Coevorden, Seahawks Managing Director of Global Markets, said in a statement.

"This collaboration brings together two clubs that share a deep commitment to their fans, innovation, and community impact. As we continue to grow the Seahawks brand across Australia and New Zealand, aligning with a club like Collingwood creates exciting opportunities to connect and grow our passionate fan bases."

Seattle and Collingwood will host a kids AFL and NFL crossover flag football clinic at the KGM centre on Wednesday afternoon.
